ROPE DIAMETER / CALIBRATION / UNITS
A rope profile is more than its diameter.
A cable tension meter calibration chart links a particular cable and instrument arrangement to reference tension. A force-unit conversion cannot replace that calibration.
Match diameter, construction & stiffness
Record nominal and measured diameter, construction, material, coating and condition. A 7×19 rope and a 1×19 strand of the same nominal diameter can respond differently to deflection.
Ask for the cable profile, contact parts, range and residual error at agreed reference points. Near terminations or confined spans, follow the selected instrument’s installation instructions.
Manufacturer reference: cable-specific calibration →What a calibration request records
- Instrument ID, range and profile version
- Rope sample, construction and contact geometry
- Reference, load points and environmental conditions
- Loading/unloading readings and repeatability
- Error definition, limits and recalibration plan
A reference bar supports a functional check; it does not establish cable-specific accuracy.
kN, lbf & kgf: force conversion reference
| kN | lbf (approx.) | kgf (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 0.05 | 11.24 | 5.1 |
| 1 | 224.81 | 101.97 |
| 5 | 1,124.04 | 509.86 |
| 10 | 2,248.09 | 1,019.72 |
| 20 | 4,496.18 | 2,039.43 |
| 50 | 11,240.45 | 5,098.58 |
| 100 | 22,480.89 | 10,197.16 |
| 300 | 67,442.68 | 30,591.49 |
| 500 | 112,404.47 | 50,985.81 |
1 lbf = 4.4482216152605 N. 1 kgf = 9.80665 N under standard gravity. These are force conversions, not cable calibration coefficients or load ratings.
START WITH YOUR ROPE
Cable diameter × tension capacity
Planning envelopes across each family. A single model does not cover every diameter and load combination. Confirm the exact rope profile, range and calibrated accuracy in your quotation.
| Model family | Supported cable diameter | Tension capacity envelope | Accuracy | Operation mode |

| CTM-QC | 3–28 mm / 0.118–1.102 in | 10–100 kN / 2,248–22,481 lbf / 1,020–10,197 kgf | Target ±1.5–2% FS; subject to rope-specific validation | Handheld lever |
| CTM-FIX | 6–52 mm / 0.236–2.047 in | 5–500 kN / 1,124–112,404 lbf / 510–50,986 kgf | Target ±1.5–2% FS; subject to rope-specific validation | Permanent bolt-on |
